Trek to the mountaintop!
Mt. Iwate, the highest peak in Iwate Prefecture with a height of 2,038 meters above sea level, is known as “Nambu Katafuji,” which means half-sided Mt. Fuji of the Nambu area. The volcanic terrain of the mountain, which has erupted five times in recorded history, is rare in Japan and can be viewed from anywhere with its rich season-dependent appearances. Mt. Iwate opens to the public annually on July 1, and many climbing enthusiasts from all over Japan come to summit the mountain. Near the summit, you can enjoy many beautiful alpine plants. From the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Himekami, Mt. Hayachine, and the distant Mt. Chokai. - Snow may remain until mid-June. When mountain climbing in spring, please take measures against the cold and bring crampons with you. When climbing in the summer, please stay hydrated, take breaks, and take care to avoid heatstroke. The mountain can be climbed all year round, but during the snow season, suitable skills and equipment are required.
Please enjoy Mt. Iwate by bringing a lunch box, water bottle, and electric light source, proper equipment such as rain gear and emergency rations, and a climbing plan that leaves you plenty of time.
In order to promote safe and secure mountain climbing, a mobile mountain climbing system has been introduced for Mt. Iwate, so please use it.
