Mt. Iwate, the highest peak in Iwate Prefecture with a height of 2,038 meters above sea level, is known as “Nambu Katafuji,” which means half-sided Mt. Fuji of the Nambu area. The volcanic terrain of the mountain, which has erupted five times in recorded history, is rare in Japan and can be viewed from anywhere with its rich season-dependent appearances. Mt. Iwate opens to the public annually on July 1, and many climbing enthusiasts from all over Japan come to summit the mountain. Near the summit, you can enjoy many beautiful alpine plants. From the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Himekami, Mt. Hayachine, and the distant Mt. Chokai.
