Tsurugajo Castle is a sightseeing spot that cannot be missed when visiting Aizu

Tsurugajo Castle, the symbol of Aizuwakamatsu, is a must-see spot when sightseeing in Aizu! When you pass by the splendid stone walls and through the front gate, you will find a five-story castle tower with red tiles. Inside the castle tower is a museum, and from the top floor you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the townscape of Aizuwakamatsu♪ The grounds are maintained as a park, so you can enjoy your time by strolling around the main temple grounds or having a drink in the tea room.

 In spring, approximately 1,000 Somei Yoshino cherry trees vie for visitor's attention in competion with the castle! You can enjoy the spectacular views of the castle, which has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots.


Step back in time to the Edo period by strolling around Ouchi-juku in a kimono!

Ouchi-juku flourished during the Edo period (1603-1868) as a Post Town on the road connecting Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, and Imaichi in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. The townscape from back then, with its rows of thatched-roof houses, has been preserved to this day, and walking through the town will make you feel like you've stepped into an old tale!

The thatched roof buildings are still utilized as both stores and residences, where you can buy souvenirs and enjoy meals and café time indoors. From April, you can rent a kimono and stroll the streets of Ouchi-juku wearing it♪

Aizu Sazaedo is a mysterious hall built more than 200 years ago

Built in 1796 upon Mt. Iimori in Aizuwakamatsu City, Aizu Sazaedo is famous as the only wooden structure in the world with a double spiral ramp! Enter the hall and walk up the ramp, cross the arched bridge at the very top, and the ramp will lead you down to exit on the other side. Believe it or not, it's actually a one-way structure with completely separate paths going up and down♪

 In the past, the temple housed statues of the 33 Kannons of the Saikoku Region, and it was considered that visitors could complete the Saikoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage simply by walking around this one temple.
