Takumi Studio, Nanbu Sakiori no Sato(Society for Preserving Nanbu Sakiori)
Experience nanbu sakiori, a traditional style of weaving developed by snow country women
Experience Aomori Prefecture’s traditional craft of nanbu sakiori at this facility. Sakiori is a method of weaving in that recycles old cloth scraps into new clothes and household items. Using shredded cloth for the weft and cotton thread for the warp, the scraps are woven together on a primitive loom called jibata, which is a rare weaving machine even in Japan. The finished product is a colorful piece of handwoven cloth. In one hour, you can learn how to use the jibata from a teacher and weave your own 20 x 25 cm place mat.
