Ganiba Onsen was named after the crabs living in the nearby stream. The Onsen is popular for its mixed gender open-air bath within pristine natural surroundings.

The mixed gender open-air bath is nestled in primeval forests, 50 metres away from the main building. Visitors can enjoy seasonal views of the forests while taking a relaxing soak with verdant summer greens or snowy winter scenes reflecting on the water. The bath is magical when illuminated by paper lanterns at night. An overnight stay is recommended to enjoy both day and night visits. The bath is open for mixed bathing with some time each evening limited to women only. The clear hot spring water is lukewarm and soft on the skin and is suitable for a long bath.

Besides the famous open-air bath, the Onsen has indoor wooden baths for men and women. The dance of mineral deposits can be seen in the water of these baths made of regional cedar wood. An open-air bath for women and rock baths for men and women are also available.

Day visits are available, Onsen hopping at Nyuto Onsenkyo is said to be beneficial for all kinds of ailments. A shuttle bus service is available between the inns with a one-day “Yumeguri-map” pass available for 600yen while the Yumeguri Pass (1,800yen) includes a one-day bus pass and admission to the seven Onsens and is recommended for overnight guests. Both can be purchased at the reception of each inn.
