Kosode Ama Center
Watch Hokugen-no-ama divers skin dive!
The northernmost ama, who became famous in the NHK morning TV series ""Amachan,"" is a general term for ama women divers who play an active role on the Kosode Coast in Kuji. Kosode Coast is a coastline with cliffs and copper colour reefs where its high-quality seaweed yields a treasure trove of luxury seafood such as sea urchin and abalone.
You can watch ama divers freedive for sea creatures at the Kosode Ama Center (July to September). Also, the Hokugen-no-Ama Festival is held on the first Sunday of August every year where there are a variety of events such as sea urchin dive demonstrations, a masters sea-urchin fishing contest, local performing arts shows, in addition to fresh seafood, such as sea urchin and sea squirts for sale.
