Aizu-nuri: a hands-on lacquering (makie) experience
Maki-e is a unique Japanese craft technique in which lacquerware surfaces are painted with lacquer and sprinkled with gold or silver metallic or colored powder. At lacquerware stores in Aizu Wakamatsu, you can choose your favorite Aizu lacquerware, such as a bowl or a hand mirror, and make your own lacquerware by drawing pictures on it.
