Akiu Shrine and Bad Luck Banishing Swordsmanship Training Experience

Gather up your courage and cut through bad luck with a single stroke.

Akiu Shrine is located in Akiu-machi, Taihaku Ward in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. At this dwelling place of the "god of victory," visitors will notice a large number of banners hung as offerings throughout the shrine precincts.

A swordsmanship training experience is held on the fourth Sunday of each month. The ritual aids you both in gaining a victory and banishing bad luck.

In addition to praying at the shrine, after swordsman Yoshihiro Abe draws his sword in dedication, each participant takes part in the bad luck banishing swordsmanship training.

Reception desk opens at 9:30 a.m. Prayers begin at 10:00 a.m. Swordsmanship training experience within shrine precincts begins at 11:00 a.m. Bad luck banishing at the Warakuden building begins at 11:30 a.m. Afterwards participants will be presented with a memento.

Reservations required. Please make your reservations on the Akiu Shrine homepage at least eight days in advance of attendance.
