The light of peace: Make a one-of-a-kind original andon lantern in Hiraizumi!(In front of Ichinoseki Station on the JR Tohoku Shinkansen line [Ichiba] (World Heritage Hiraizumi-Ichinoseki DMO))

Make your own original andon lantern to remember your visit to Hiraizumi, a World Heritage Site. Take it home and use it as an interior decoration in your room.

Make your own andon (portable or stationary small lantern; originally fueled by candles or oil, nowadays light bulbs are also used). Attach chiyogami paper in your favorite color (square-shaped washi paper with colorful patterns and crests) to a plain andon and customize it to your sensibilities. Children are also welcome. You can take the finished andon home and use it as an interior decoration or lighting in your room. The light is detachable, so you can attach it to the top for carrying around or to the bottom for interior lighting in your room. Overseas visitors who have participated in this workshop have been pleased that they were able to make a Japanese-style souvenir, giving the workshop very positive reviews. The workshop is offered at venues in Ichinoseki and Hiraizumi.
