Yunomata Waterfall (Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture)

This impressive waterfall with a 40-meter drop is a must-see!

Yunomatao Waterfall has a drop of 40 meters and is the second largest waterfall in Yuzawa Geopark after Medaki Falls in Oyasukyo Gorge. In autumn, you can see the beautiful autumn leaves close up against the magnificent waterfall. It is thought that the movement of the "Yunomatao fault" north-northwest of the Yunomatao Waterfalls may have affected the formation of the waterfall, but the detailed origin is not known. There is a hot spring on the north side of the waterfall (extension of the fault), and there used to be a hot spring inn.
