Noshiro Tanabata Festival “Tenku-no-Fuyajou” (Noshiro, Akita Prefecture)
Japan's tallest castle-shaped lantern parades through the town
The “Tenku-no-Fuyajou” (Lantern Castle in the Sky) is a Tanabata Festival in Noshiro with large lantern floats. The festival was revived in 2013 after a gap of more than a century.
Two large lanterns floats are paraded through the streets of Noshiro: the 17.6-meter-tall Karoku float and the 24.1-meter-tall Chikasue float, the tallest castle-shaped lantern in Japan.
The splendor of the large colorful lanterns is magnificent and breathtakingly beautiful.
The event is held every year in early August.
