The shrine boasts a history of more than 2,000 years as the general guardian of Iwashiro No kuni Ichinomiya and Aizu, and tells the origin of the name of the Aizu region.

The shrine is said to be blessed with good luck, good luck, good luck against evil spirits, good luck in business, good harvest, good luck in marriage, and so on.

In addition to the valuable treasures, such as national and prefectural important cultural properties, there are many traditional events such as the “Otaue Festival,” one of the three rice planting ceremonies in Japan and designated as a nationally important intangible folk cultural property.

In the shrine's sacred area, which still retains the virgin forests of Aizu, there are “Usuzumizakura,” the shrine's sacred tree, and “Hiryu no wisteria,” a prefectural natural treasure, as well as the outer garden “Iris Garden” with its colorful irises in full bloom.
