Sendai Hanso Date Masamune Kō Otamaya Zuihōden
The final resting place of Date Masamune
Built in 1637, Zuihōden is the mausoleum of Date Masamune, a gorgeous and ornate mausoleum that conveyed the style of the Momoyama period (1573–1603). It was designated as a national treasure in 1931 but burned down during the Second World War. The current building is a recreation built in 1979. In addition to the mausoleums of the second- and third-generation descendants of Masamune Date, there is also a museum that displays materials from the excavations.
