Aomori Contemporary Art Centre

Aomori Contemporary Art Centre

The Art Centre was built centered on the theme of interaction between region and artist, nature and art. Visitors can attend exhibitions at which both foreign and domestic artists unveil works created while residing in Aomori and appreciate outdoor sculptures dotted about the lush forests. The architectural works of Tadao Ando are particularly worthy of note. The Centre's three main buildings have been positioned so as not to spoil the natural surroundings or the hilly terrain. These include the Exhibition Hall, equipped with a horseshoe-shaped gallery and outdoor amphitheater, the Creative Hall where artistic works are produced, and the Residential Hall for artists-in-residence. Visitors may also freely peruse art-related books in the lounge and attend hands-on workshops led by artists or lectures on various art topics, which are held as occasion demands. (*Please check the schedule in advance.)
