The Aomori Nebuta Matsuri (festival) is a participatory festival in Aomori that attracts over two million people each year and was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 1980. Why not join in on the festivities? Rather than watching from the sidelines, jump right in with the locals—anyone wearing the costume is welcome to participate. Simply show up as you are on the day of the festival; the price includes a basic costume set with yukata (summer kimono), tasuki (string to tie the yukata sleeves out of the way), koshihimo (waist cords) and hanagasa (Japanese flower hat). Staff will keep your clothes and belongings safe, so feel free to join in and enjoy the festival.
