Taihokan

The Taihokan is a Western-style building located in Tsuruoka Park which has been developed on the site of Tsurugaoka Castle. It is a Dutch baroque-style building that was built to commemorate the enthronement of Emperor Taisho in 1915. It features a red dome-shaped roof and white walls. It was previously used as a municipal library. Currently, it is used as a museum of local personalities to introduce those with a connection to Tsuruoka.
Tsuruoka Park, where the Taihokan is located, is a famous cherry blossom spot. It has also been selected as one of the top 100 cherry blossom spots in Japan. Approximately 730 Yoshino, double-flowered and other cherry trees are planted here. The cherry blossoms bloom one after another. A cherry blossom festival is held to match the time of the blossoming. In addition, many azaleas and wisterias are planted in the park. Therefore, we recommend you take a stroll through it.
You can take wonderful photographs with the lovely red dome-shaped roof and the pure white walls reflected against the blue sky on days when the weather is fine.
