You can see the sight of half-dried squid lined up like curtains on the coastline of Ajigasawa - a port town facing the Sea of Japan. There are nine grilled squid shops that quickly grill this half-dried squid near the junction of Prefectural Road No. 3 and the former highway. This is called Yakiika-dori (Grilled Squid Street).
Squid can be caught all year around in Aomori. However, it tastes especially good from July to August. In particular, freshly grilled squid is wonderful! It is tender despite its thick body and its flavor is packed with tastiness. Make sure to try aromatic squid grilled over charcoal while taking in the salty breeze of the Sea of Japan.
In addition to grilled squid, you can also buy squid shiokara (paste made from salted fermented seafood), dried squid and seasonal fish that have been salted and dried overnight depending on the shop. Therefore, you can also use them for souvenirs.
