Kofunato coast is picturesque with its rolling lawn and small lighthouse.Located at the southeasternmost tip of Aomori Prefecture, it has the earliest sunrise in the prefecture. The sunrise from the unobstructed horizon is a moving sight! There is a walking course and benches along the beach where you can relax and enjoy the view.
Since this is the border between Aomori and Iwate prefectures, "border stones" have been placed on both land and sea.Look for the stones standing quietly. Each stone is inscribed with a letter.
Ichigo-ni (stewed sea urchin and abalone) soup is a local dish that makes the most of the area's specialties.Kofunato coast is also the site of the Ichigo-ni-ni Festival, held for two days in late July every year. This is a very popular event where visitors can enjoy luxury foods at a very reasonable price. Please come and enjoy the bounty of seafood at the site.
