Ogama Hanzo and Oreishi Rocks

Scenic spot of Sanriku Fukko National Park

Ogama Hanzo and Oreishi Rocks
Ogama Hanzo and Oreishi Rocks are scenic spots of Sanriku Fukko National Park in the middle of Karakuwa Peninsula. It is a beauty spot where you can see a rough and masculine scenic beauty. There is continuous terrain incorporating a unique deeply indented coastline with many strangely shaped rocks formed by wave erosion.
It looks just like hot water is boiling in a large pot when you look out to sea from Maeda Beach. It also looks like the Hachiman Rock off the coast is serving as the lid. Therefore, it is called Ogama (Large Pot). The marble stone pillar of Oreishi is one of the leading landscapes of Sanriku Fukko National Park. It has a height of 16 meters and a width of 3 meters. The tip was broken by about 2 meters at the time of the large Sanriku Tsunami in 1896. Accordingly, it has been named Oreishi (Broken Rock). If you take a walk on the trail toward the sea from Ogama Parking Lot, Oreishi makes its appearance together with the ocean. The sight of it extending out below you is spectacular.
