At the salt factory located adjacent to the popular sightseeing spot known as the "Married Couple Rocks" (Meotoiwa), seawater collected from the Sea of Japan, off the Sado coast, is simmered for 15 hours to produce salt. After a visit to the salt making factory, participants will cook rice in their own individual iron pots. The rice has been certified by the city of Sado with the special "Toki to kurasu sato" (villages that live in harmony with the crested ibis) seal. The salt used for making the onigiri, of course, is produced from seawater collected from the Sea of Japan. Reservations required. Please make your reservations at least three days in advance by 5:00 p.m.
