Earthquake Remains: Namie Town Ukedo Elementary School

Earthquake Remains: Namie Town Ukedo Elementary School
On March 11, 2011, Namie Town's Ukedo Elementary School suffered tremendous damage as a result of a massive earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent nuclear power plant accident unlike anything the school had ever experienced.Miraculously, all 93 students who attended the school at that time (including 11 first graders who had returned home) were able to evacuate safely thanks to the prompt judgment of the teachers and staff and the cooperation of the students. The Ukedo Elementary School, a symbol of the community, has been maintained and preserved as a relic of the earthquake, and has been open to the public since October 24, 2021 as an opportunity to think about disaster prevention and as a facility to hand down the lessons to future generations.
