Mount Azuma-kofuji rises 1,707 meters above sea level in the western part of Fukushima City. The Bandai-Azuma Skyline, which winds its way along the surface of the mountain, has been selected as one of the 100 best roads in Japan. It is a mountain sightseeing road with a total length of about 29 kilometers that connects Takayu Onsen and the Tsuchiyu Pass. The panoramic route, which runs at a maximum elevation of 1,622 meters and an average elevation of 1,350 meters, is truly a road that runs in the sky. There are many viewpoints known as the "Eight Views of Azuma," such as Tsubakuro Valley, Tengu-no-Niwa, and Umimi Pass. Many people come to enjoy the magnificent and richly varied natural scenery, such as the "snow corridor" in spring, fresh greenery in early summer, and autumn foliage. The Jododaira plateau is also known for the beauty of its starry skies and is home to the Jododaira Astronomical Observatory, the observatory located on the highest ground in Japan open to the public (1,600 meters above sea level).
