This is the largest festival in Aizu, held annually in late September.
The three-day festival includes a lantern parade, the Aizu Bandaisan Dance, a festival of thanksgiving for predecessors, a procession of Aizu domain lords, the Nisshinkan Children's Parade, and a parade of drum and fife bands.
In particular, the “Aizu Han Duke Procession” is the biggest attraction of the Aizu Festival, attracting more than 200,000 visitors every year, with a total of approximately 500 people parading through the city in heroic warrior costumes, firearms demonstrations at various locations in the city, and a performance by the Byakkotai (White Tiger Squadron).
The “Aizu Bandaisan Odori” is held on two nights during the festival, and spectators are welcome to join in the dancing.
