Tsutsumi dolls of the east and the Fushimi dolls of the west are said to be the two major origins of clay dolls. The area excels in kabuki and ukiyoe-style dolls and have gained fame for their elegant use of color and refined forms, which has exerted great influence on clay dolls and papier-mache dolls throughout the Tohoku region.
