The name comes from the fact that Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine was once located at the top of this hill, and it is one of Hakodate's most popular view spots for filming commercials. From the top of the hill, one can see the straight road stretching to the sea and the “Seikan Liaison Ship Mashu Maru” moored and displayed in the harbor at the same time. In winter, the Hakodate Illumination, an illumination event, beautifully illuminates the roadside trees and cobblestone pavement, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
