Every year on January 20th in the World Heritage town of Hiraizumi, men and women of 'unlucky age' for that year come together to participate in a highly unique ritual! Carrying flaming torches, they parade through the frozen winter streets to the Shrine inside the grounds of Motsu-ji Temple, bringing with them offerings of vegetables to pray for a good harvest as well as good health fortune for the coming year. You, too, have the chance to join in this unique festival! After participating in the parade with the locals, join a special after-festival meal called 'Norai' and learn more about the local culture and history of Hiraizumi as you eat, drink and chat with the local people!Through your festival experience, discover the true meaning of 'Heiwa-shiso' - a peaceful mind - in one of the spiritual centres of Pure Land Buddhism.
